In today’s economy, it is important to put your best foot forward when you are looking for a job. Let’s face it, there are so many people who are looking for a new career that you could be one of hundreds applying for the same position, you have to make you and your resume stand out. Here are several tips that can help you do just that.

Be Organized!

It is a fast moving market and when someone wants to interview you, you should respond quickly before it is too late. Set up a voice mail and a professional sounding email specifically for potential employers to contact you. This will help you to keep job searching and personal life separate and organized. You don’t want to miss an email just because it got overlooked due to all your personal emails. You also don’t want to miss a voice mail because someone else in your home happen to delete it.

Make Your Resume Stand Out

Make sure that your resume isn’t the same ho-hum standard resume like everyone else’s. You should have copies of both your cover letter and your resume available to edit. This way you can adjust the content and information to match the job you are applying for. You should never send a standard resume and cover letter out, it may not touch on key points that are specific to the position you want. Also, don’t forget to personalize your content letter to address specific points that are related to the employer such as how long they have been in business, key points that have made them successful or products they carry. Employers like to know you have done your research on their company, it is flattering and shows you are serious about the position.

Interview – Dress To Impress And Have Notes Handy

When you go to the interview make sure you dress to impress and your attire fits the job you are applying for. If you are applying for an office position make sure your outfit is office appropriate. Also brush up on facts about the company you are applying for. Just like in your resume, prospective employers like to know you are serious about the job. If you are afraid of forgetting this information make notes and take them with you. This shows your potential employer you are an organized and prepared person.
